Sitting Placid Female sculpture, by Emily Little
Stylised Seated Woman Amusing in her Stolidness Unique Sculpture for Sale for Outside outdoors in the Garden or your Yard by the Entertaining and Brilliant Sculptress Emily Young who says....
"This work is hand-built using a semi- refractory clay sourced in Verona, Italy.A bronze version could considered."
I cant help feeling that Emily is subconsciously influenced by Gaugin in ths piece and her wading Peasant Women "Buffalo Girls" below
Artist's comments:
My sculpture is presently concerned with both representation and form and was influenced by a period of study at the Italian Mint in Rome which lead me to consider the figure in a monumental or symbolic light. This encouraged me to simplify my own sculpture and in some pieces where I have tried to pare down elements to the essential, there is a resulting primitive simplicity about the work.
In contrast, the sobriety associated with the monumental has lead me to produce work which is essentially ironic in nature, humour being the instinctive way in which to deal with the realities of life.

The Bather presents a juxtaposition between solid mass and finer detail. The female figure is seated however she is not passive. She is conscious and alert as if waiting for an expected, inevitable event in time. She is an ?active? participant rather than a purely passive sitter.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."
