Gordon Becker, being utterly captivated by a film of an Inuit carver creating an image full of magic and power from a raw lump of stone, Gordon Becker determined then and there to become a carver and sculptor.
Sculpture: 'Dance of Generations (Carved Wood female Dancer statues sculptures)' by Gordon Becker
Finely Carved Woods Dancer Woman Hyper-realistic Resting Sitting female sculptures for sale by Gordon Becker He describes it thus. "This piece is constructed of White pine, sliced and joined to form the costume. The limbs and face are carved from white maple which have been laminated from multiple sections to keep the grain running in the direction of the actions of the limbs. This allows for tremendous strength in all parts of the sculpture, while using selected grains to suggest the direction of the musculature beneath the skin, adding an extra dynamism to the work.
I made this piece as a tribute to my mother shortly after her death. The double dance bar is the barricade over which she passed. Her left hand is held before her eye as a shield from what she must eventually look upon. While carving the face, the faces of my sister and my sister?s daughter emerged from the wood, giving the piece its title.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful." Thank you again for your wonderful and professional assistance throughout. I am so enjoying my "Running Hare"....I call her Lucy. I received a lovely email from Lucy (Lucy Kinsella the Sculptress) earlier this week and the Running Hare (www.artparks.co.uk/s1104) is now safely in my possession. As I told Lucy, the piece is more beautiful and delicate than I had been expecting. She is very special.. Thank you so much for the part you played in bringing us to gather. A... [Read more]
