Profile image of Nicholas RowsellNicholas Rowsell was born around midnight on the 17th/18th of August 1960 during a dry electrical storm, in Hackney, London. This fact, according to Nick, is "Perhaps the most interesting thing about me as apparently lightbulbs were popping like champagne corks" Nicholas first picked up a hammer and chisel with the intension of creating a sculpture in 1987`and has been carving one or more pieces of sculpture ever since and does not look like he is going to stop. Nick was working as a stonecladder on a major building project in Berkley Square...

Sculpture description:
African Elephant Carved Stone Abstract Modern Stylised sculptures or statues or statuettes for sale for Outside Outdoors in the Garden or Yard as a Focal Point on a Plinth or Pedestal or Indoors Inside As an Interior decoration.... it is described thus... "Nicks Rowsell`s wonderfully audacious Elephant still wows people to this day and hopefully for many years to come. A truly surreal and masterful work. Carved in the first year of discovering his latent abilities in Stone Craft this seriously original piece of work stands alone in today`s sculptural cannon.
Artist's comments:
Asked why I opted for six instead of four legs. It was because there was less stone to remove and more things to get right. Complexity of movement in the right hand turn and a sense of continuous motion in an imagined creature yet to be realised. I was reminded of the blind man searching for a black cat in a dark coal shed that was arguably, never there to begin with.
