Profile image of Nicholas RowsellNicholas Rowsell was born around midnight on the 17th/18th of August 1960 during a dry electrical storm, in Hackney, London. This fact, according to Nick, is "Perhaps the most interesting thing about me as apparently lightbulbs were popping like champagne corks" Nicholas first picked up a hammer and chisel with the intension of creating a sculpture in 1987`and has been carving one or more pieces of sculpture ever since and does not look like he is going to stop. Sculpture description:
Carved Head Abstract Primitive Contemporary Stone Face sculpture Bust Sculpture Carving For Outside outdoors&Inside or Indoors by Nicholas Rowsell. " This piece by Nick is heavily detailed with tribal imagery and many other original details that defy normal descriptive platitudes. When placed centrally, so as to be appreciated from all angles, this piece becomes much more than the sum of its details as the subjectivity and superb craftsmanship combine to form a truly inspired piece of sculpture; a real original in its field with nothing being carved today coming even remotely close.
Artist's comments:
This piece took a very long time to carve, 3 years on and off, Half way into carving it, I left it for a year so, twice, other ideas could form, and set about it again. As its not large there were problems with it moving whilst I was carving it so it had to be worked in a bed of wet sand so as to stop it moving when I struck it (very frustrating). I`m very happy with the outcome of the piece. Everyone who sees it likes it and most other carvers I`ve talked to about it wish they`d carved it; and that is perhaps the best compliment going in the carving world. The nose like Viking detail has small diamonds for pupils.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."

Customer comment on 'Equilibrium (Carved Wood Modern Contemporary abstract statue statuette' by Liliya Pobornikova
Hi Peter, I am so delighted with Equilibrium, I have a collection of over 20 original paintings; but this is my first sculpture, and it pleases me more than most of my art. Please pass my thanks to Liliya, (Liliya Pobornikova in Spain) me and my friends really admire her work. And although I cannot afford the £xxxx for her Rainbow 1, I would love to own it, and would be happy to pay £xxxx. Thank you to you too Peter, especially for bearing me in mind, but also for q...
