Wolfgang Sandt, German artist with a love for Italy, works mainly with stone but also with wood and several other materials, integrating also objéts trouvées in his sculptures. His works are as well representational as non-figurative.
For many years he has been occupying himself with the theme of `fragility`, questioning the importance of seemingly unchanging values and realities. One result of this research are his `fragile stelae`, long, slender, elegant and always on the rim of breaking : `The artist always has to go to the extremes.`
Sculpture: 'Lebenslinien (Translucent abstract Waterfall marble garden Carving)' by Wolfgang Sandt
Post Modern Abstract Translucent Carved Marble Garden sculptures, or Contemporary Carved Marble Transparent statues for Indoors or Outside in the garden For Sale "Lebenslinien", "Lines of Life" is a Translucent Marble sculpture from Wolfgang Sandt?s lightstone series.
Lines are running parallely over the surface of the stone. They cross each other, touch and part again, building a pattern which might be interpreted as a code, the code of lives so to speak...
Wlfgang is the master of this quality of sculpture and his interpretaion of his message into this beautiful piece of marble is typical of his envyable and remarkable skill.
I am fascinated by the contrast of the weight of the material and the seeming lightness of the form. In a way you could say I am aiming for the connection between earth and sky, beetween materia and pure energy.
Thus in my work emerges another contrast: The contrast beetween the solidity of stone and the impalbability of light.
Actually I work the stone so delicately that it becomes translucent, thus literally creating lightstones.
Yet these lightstones also give away the secrets of their insides making the stone no longer seem solid but creating a transition to the light.
