Profile image of Lynda HukinsLynda Hukins has an insatiable love of animals and her skill is translating the wildlife in the country and the sea shore of Kent into sculpture. She somehow captures both the strength and repose of her subjects. As she is always working on commissions she has little time to indulge her inclinations and we are extraordinary lucky to have this piece. More recently abstract bronze sculpture has come to the fore in her work with examples to found here on Artparks site.

Sculpture description:
A small bronze mole as it is portrayed lifesize. This bronze has been given at two presentations. To an executive of a leading wildlife trust and to the president of one of the oldest and most prestigious golfing societies.
Artist's comments:
A mammal rarely seen above ground because of its underworld tunnelling activities. However, if you are lucky, you might see it as it moves quickly across ground as it changes its location. It has a wonderfull velvet coat. A very interesting mammal to sculpt.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."
