Sculpture description:
The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers commissioned this large-scale bronze relief to commemorate the bustling fruit and vegetable market that operated in Covent Garden from 1670 to 1974.

The bronze relief is sited on the fa?ade of the jubilee Market Building in Southampton Street, London WC2, adjacent to the Covent Garden Piazza.
Artist's comments:
It was fascinating doing the research for this bronze relief. I studied the wonderful archive of photographs and fruit porters carrying a number of these huge baskets on their head was a familiar site. Talking to the market families gave me a sense of the vitality and banter of the market porters and I tried to capture all this in the bronze relief.

Dear Peter

Just to say how thrilled and delighted we are with our recent sculpture purchased through Art Parks online – “When I Saw You” by Kay Singla (a truly gifted artist and wonderful person).

Once again, our buying experience has been absolutely first class – both in our dealings with you and Sarah at Art Parks and with the individual sculptors directly.

As you may remember, we have previously bought sculptures via your website ... [Read more]
