Profile image of David GrossDavid Gross works with wind-felled trees, wood from managed forests, and salvaged timbers with holes and markings that hint at its history. When he`s working wood, he is simultaneously looking for new ways of using it, while researching how it was used historically. Sculpture description:
A giant Outdoor conker seed constructed and carved in oak. Part of the seed can be seen bursting from the open shell
Artist's comments:
This construction technique allows me to make very durable, minimum maintenance carvings which are bigger than the trees the wood originally came from. The sculpture was made to grace the top of a grand stairway, in Oxhey Park, Watford, within an avenue of Horse Chestnuts
