Sculpture description:
This sculpture was inspired by the Paleolithic Cave paintings found at sites such as Altamira and Chauvet. Sold as resin cast. Also available as bronze resin (shown in some images) Also available to order in bronze.
Artist's comments:
I find the prehistoric cave art vibrant and evocative of the animals they represent, and I also love the textures of the paintings on the stone walls of the cave. In this sculpture I was fascinated to explore how to realise these 2 dimensional depictions as sculptures, whilst still capturing their essence. I sculpted the pattern for the cast in clay, and then took a mold out of it, in order to be able to make the resin cast. The resin is then painted and waxed in order to build up the texture and colour.
