Profile image of Lesley PrickettRecently Lesley Prickett has become interested in sculpting farmyard animals. I have started my agricultural collection with a couple of ceramic highland cows, and saddleback pigs. I will be adding to the range over the coming months. If you are interested in commissioning a piece (perhaps a favourite animal).

Sculpture description:
Small little Rhino Ceramic cub Young Baby Rhinoceros sculpture statue statuette ornament For Sale for Indoors Inside Interiors by the remarkable Wild Life Artist Lesley Prickett This sculpture is available to order (it will take approximately 6 - 8 weeks for the whole process.) The sculpture is hand built from a highly grogged, earthenware clay. It is then fired in an electric kiln and given a second firing in a Raku kiln and "smoked" in a container to give it its matt, earthy appearance. Each sculpture is similar but unique.
Artist's comments:
This is a Black Rhino calf. Black rhino have pointy, prehensile top lips (this baby has it`s top lip tucked into its mouth which is quite usual) which they use to select the twigs and leaves which constitute its diet. As black rhino feed on bushes their stance is rather "upright", with their heads held higher than white rhinos, whose posture is typically head down to the grass on which they graze. Black rhinos are smaller than the while rhinos, but can be very aggressive. Although I have seen rhino in the wild, this one is based on a calf which was born at Howletts in Kent, UK a few years ago.
