The artwork of M.C.CAROLYN includes a wide range of visual statements about the human condition. One photo of “Untitled, 19” shows her looking outward with one hand on her breast. The other photo of her back shows her other hand on her skirt. She wears a classically draped skirt. Who is this M.C.CAROLYN stone woman? Edipso Communications, Paris, France, purchased the one time use of these two photos of “Steatite Woman 19” for a major brochure for their customer, the Credit Foncier Banque, Paris, France. She appears as two women talking about the advantages of depositing in this bank. When asked about the title, MCC simply says that the steatite sculpture was completed on Jan. 9 … or 19. She needs no other title.
As a woman carved from stone is destined to stand alone through timeless eons, so are each of us women vigilant to protect our space and care for our body. This sculpted woman is calmly attempting to cover all sides of her existence. She is vigilant. As a statue carved from steatite she is not predictable as the viewer moves from one side to another. Each angle of “Untitled, 19” is a different sculpture … with different shapes and forms that make up a unique whole woman. M.C.CAROLYN has created more than just a single woman, but rather women.
