Lotte Thuenker is one of the international artists that work in Pietrasanta´s marble sculpture studios. She was born in Bonn, she studied in Berlin – and then worked in – architecture. Her works, sculpted in marble, lime stone and onyx, seem at once light and without gravity – and also as if they are in motion, ultimately finding their equilibrium in a single point. A cube between ball and cushion, full of tension and energy, all strength is directed towards the outside. The side archs appear with fine, parallel cut tracks, on top the surface is created in wide cuts and bigger fractured parts, thus as if it bubbles inside the sculpture and the moment of the opening, the exploding is near. Eight corner points, six maximum points of the body, the stings of the single curves are exactly fixed, defined, calculated and the surfaces are stretched in between evenly. On one point the sculpture lies - and with little strength this huge mass with a weight of 1.3 tonnes can be set in movement. And this should be also done regularly, because, otherwise, it happens that one day this `wobbeling stone´ stands still and never again stirs …
