Profile image of Philip MellingPhilip Melling is working predominantly in metals, Philip creates an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture.
His style ranges from figurative to abstract, often curvaceous and tactile, but with a coarseness that is lent from working with bare steel.
The current collection `Elements` focuses on Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and describes the reaction of when those elements meet.

Developing the collection Melling concentrated on the process of using repetitive form of material - flat steel bar, to generate concepts and capture the...

Sculpture description:
Blue/grey coloured steel floor, plinth or table sculpture that represents Elemental Energy.

The sculpture represents the ripples made in the surface when a stone is dropped within. The unique colouration accentuates the water theme, bringing an exciting and relevant quality to the piece.

This metal loop sculpture, made up of concentric circles, is powder-cated for a beautiful but tough finish, Philip Melling is open to Commissions of Custom Designed Variations on this or any other Themes and Style of Sculpture seen here on this Website.
Artist's comments:
Developing the sculpture I concentrated on the process of using repetitive form of material - circular steel rings, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions.

This version has a beautiful blue/grey surface to it which is achieved through a tough powder-coat finish.

All loop sculptures are based on a concept, but vary in size, form and finish to make them unique pieces.
I am happy to make similar sculptures, sized and finished to suite your space.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."

Customer comment on 'Brasil - Chess (Corporate Commission of an entire edition)' by Plamen Dimitrov
Although it seemed a daunting project to commission a sculpture on the internet with a tight deadline, Plamen Dimitrov in Bulgaria made it as easy as possible for me in Brazil by producing a series of little clay sketches after each email and sending photos it seemed by return. He worked round the clock and was incredibly intuitive with his understanding of what I wanted. This was despite an 8 hour time difference and having poor English as our common language. He w...
