Francois Viljoen is a South African born artist, now lives in the south west part of Baden Württemberg, Germany. In many ways arts influenced and marked his life from the start. He was in a only Academic+Sport school with no art classes, This was quite frustrating, but then the creative process, esp. drawing, became a passion and big interest in his teenage years, following a long, weekly TV series called, "Quest for Romanticism". Sculpture: 'The Armadillo Bowl (bronze Curious Animal statue)' by Francois Viljoen
Bronze Bowl&Armadillo sculpture, Armadillo means "little armoured one" Spanish. The nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) in this case. Found in North, Central and South America. Like the Pangolin, also solitary and nocturnal. Can jump 1 meter high when frightened. 2 – 6 kg and covered by non overlapping, keratinized epidermal scales with nine bands/rings around middle of body. The armadillo is mainly insectivores with sticky tongues to lap up the insects. Like the pangolin can run away quickly, or quickly dig into the ground when confronted by its enemies. Some armadillo`s, like the Pangolin, can also roll up into a ball. Motif: While creating this work, words that came to mind were: Contemplation or Reflection.

Although it seemed a daunting project to commission a sculpture on the internet with a tight deadline, Plamen Dimitrov in Bulgaria made it as easy as possible for me in Brazil by producing a series of little clay sketches after each email and sending photos it seemed by return.
