Sculpture description:
Bas-relief carving in white marble. Please see Artist comments.
Artist's comments:
This series of low-relief sculptures is part of a continuing development of bas-relief carving that I`ve been experimenting with for some time. Working with light and shadow is the essence of this form of carving as it walks the tightrope stretched between drawing and 3-dimensional sculpture. So far, the extreme edge of this series has been "Torso Haiku" which is a study of how far it`s possible to minimize line and shadow while still evoking a powerful image, akin to that form of poetry.

Customer comment on 'Brasil - Chess (Corporate Commission of an entire edition)' by Plamen Dimitrov
Although it seemed a daunting project to commission a sculpture on the internet with a tight deadline, Plamen Dimitrov in Bulgaria made it as easy as possible for me in Brazil by producing a series of little clay sketches after each email and sending photos it seemed by return. He worked round the clock and was incredibly intuitive with his understanding of what I wanted. This was despite an 8 hour time difference and having poor English as our common language. He w...
