She has been widely exhibited and in 2015 won the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) Wildlife Artist of the Year competition. She was Overall Runner-up and Go Wild Category Winner in 2012 and won the Open Category in 2010.

Most of Nick’s animal sculptures are Raku fired, giving a rich but natural looking crackle glaze. She aims to get under the skin of the animal, giving each animal sculpture its own personality. Many of her subjects are highly endangere...

Sculpture description:
Aardvark sculpture/statuette in Raku fired ceramic. Nick has observed her subjects extensively in the wild and this enables her to capture the unique characteristics and personality of each animals. Her Raku firing method perfectly suits the wild animals she models, as it imparts a matt, smoky finish to unglazed areas.
Artist's comments:
Aardvarks are wonderful creatures, full of character and personality. They are particular well suited to the Raku firing method I used here, which perfectly captures the rugged, dusty environment in which aardvarks live. I always try to connect with the feelings and personality of the animals I model.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."

Customer comment on 'Infinity Curve No.1 (stainless Steel Loop abstract sculpture statues)' by Wenqin Chen
Dear Wenqin,

Your Piece (Infinity Curve 1) arrived today. Sue and I are very pleased. It is better in person than the photographs.
