Profile image of Nicholas RowsellNicholas Rowsell was born around midnight on the 17th/18th of August 1960 during a dry electrical storm, in Hackney, London. This fact, according to Nick, is "Perhaps the most interesting thing about me as apparently lightbulbs were popping like champagne corks"
Nicholas first picked up a hammer and chisel with the intension of creating a sculpture in 1987`and has been carving one or more pieces of sculpture ever since and does not look like he is going to stop.
Nick was working as a stonecladder on a major building project in Berkley Square...

Sculpture description:
Almost square in shape, with rounded corners, carved on the four facing sides. This piece of tough Portland limestone has been excavated for depth, Each face has heavy abstractions which has marking this piece more interpretational than figurative.
Artist's comments:
This cube of Portland limestone is harder than the hammers of hell. knowing this I set about getting as much depth as possible; what I was going to do with the remaining stone left proud came through after. Being a harder than average stone with a strong shape [nothing less vulnerable than a cube] gave me a licence to get right into the heavily surreal facial depth of being stuff.

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

Hi Peter,

The Red Kite arrived today and WOW !!

Its fantastic, I have spoken to the artist today to congratulated him on his work.
Its in place in our garden and my family are soooooo thrilled with it, he certainly
is a clever guy and very talented. I know we will get many more positive comments throughout
the summer and can only say a very big thank you for the opportunity to own something
that we would not think of having.... [Read more]
