'Flower of Life (Symbolic Flower statue or statuette)' by Maurice van Cooten
Description: Raku fired Ceramic sculpture. Raku is a traditional Japanese firing technique, hand molded pottery is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed to cool in the open air or in a container filled with combustible material. This results in crackle glaze structure, black surfaces where clay has been exposed to smoke. Color transitions where heat reduction of elementals such as copper change from bronze, red, blue and green. The result of Raku firing is irregular, rustic, producing `one of a kind`, expressing the notion of `wabi-sabi` a Japanese aesthetic.
